Become a South Dakota notary public
Requirements
To become an SD notary, you must submit a South Dakota notary application, file an oath, and a $5000
bond. There is a $25 filing fee as well. The notary term is for six years. You must be a U.S.
citizen to become an SD notary public. The application is extremely short and only wants your name,
address, if you have ever been a notary before, and when your commission expired, as well as if you
have ever been convicted of a felony. Then there is an oath. The wording for the oath is below.
State of South Dakota
County of ________
I, _____________ being first duly sworn, depose and state that I am of legal age and am a citizen of
the United States. I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States
and the Constitution of the state of South Dakota and that I will faithfully and impartially perform
the duties of a notary public within and for the State of South Dakota according to the law and to
the best of my ability, so help me god.
